PROSPER asks how dispatch conditions, route characteristics, and task pressure shape rider behaviour, and how these responses affect safety, workload, and operational performance. It develops methods that connect observed rider behaviour directly to routing and dispatch decisions. GPS trajectories from delivery riders are compared with cyclists travelling under different conditions to identify systematic behavioural responses. These observations are combined with infrastructure and safety information to estimate where and under what conditions risk may emerge, and to evaluate alternative routing and dispatch strategies within a simulation and optimization framework. The project uses these methods to study how delivery performance, rider workload, and safety can be considered jointly rather than as separate objectives, supporting platform logistics systems that better account for how riders actually behave.
Cycling-based delivery systems increasingly rely on algorithmic dispatch and routing, yet how riders actually respond to these decisions remains poorly understood.
